Ozma of Oz (Return to Oz) Cosplay Costume Gown

Return to Oz was such an inspiration as a child to me. Some may call the movie "Nightmare Fuel" and although at times scary, I loved the styling. Mombi's gown was beautiful and Ozma's made me want to be the Queen of Oz. When I was commissioned to make an Ozma gown, we looked at book photos and movie stills and decided to just do our own thing. We had both remembered the gown as being much more elegant and realized that the movie was a (beautiful) party dress straight out of the 80s. We decided to create a gown for an adult but still give a huge nod to Ozma of Oz.

 Instead of feathers and tinsel, I embellished the bodice with dozens of hand crafted silk flowers and large faux emeralds. The sleeves have pearls and beads cascading from them in a way I am sure I will utilize again! The skirt is layered to be shimmering and detailed with more flowers, rhinestones and large sequins with a curly hem.

This gown was such a delight to create and in a way a childhood dream come true.
